FAQ

What time should I arrive?

Check in opens 45 mins prior to the stated departure time, please ensure you check in at the Explore Booking Kiosk at least 15 minutes prior to stated departure time as our boat will depart the dock at scheduled time. 

Please note that during these events we expect increased traffic and congestion in the city. Please allow extra time to travel to the city, find parking and/or make your way to check in.

 

Where do I check in/board?

Check in at our centrally located Explore Booking Kiosk located within the America's Cup Race Village Viaduct Harbour, opposite the Official Merchandise Store - see our map here. Our friendly team will give you further instructions and access to board your vessel down the ramp.

 

How do I get there?

  • Train/Bus  - if you are arriving by public transport our Explore Booking Kiosk is a 5 minute walk from the Britomart Transport Centre in central Auckland. From here walk 300m along Quay St towards the Viaduct Harbour.
  • Car - if you are arriving by car, the nearest carpark is the Downtown Carpark, entry at Customs Street West (corner of Lower Hobson and Customs Street West).

Please note that during these events we expect increased traffic and congestion in the city. Please allow extra time to travel to the city, find parking and/or make your way to check in.

 

How long will I be on the water?

This will be subject to race start/duration and time between races. We estimate that you will be on the vessels for approx. 5 hours.  

 

What should I wear? 

All passengers must wear flat soled footwear. Please dress in comfortable clothing for the weather. We advise you bring a light jacket, hat, sunglasses and sunscreen. 

 

Can I bring my own food/drinks on board? 

All ticket options include a food and beverage option specific to the vessel. No additional food or drinks are to be brought on board with the exception of a water bottle.

 

Can I purchase additional drinks on board?

There are drinks available for purchase on our Passenger Vessel and Harbour Sailing Fleet including a range of beer, wine and non-alcoholic drinks. There are no facilities to purchase additional drinks on our America's Cup Yachts. 

 

Is there shade/shelter on board?

  • Passenger vessel – yes, there are a range of indoor and outdoor spaces across the vessel.
  • Harbour Sailing Fleet – yes, there is shelter available below deck however you will not be able to watch the racing from below deck.
  • America’s Cup Yachts – no, there is no shelter on board. You may wish to bring a small parasol to provide personal shelter.

  • Passenger vessel – Yes
  • Harbour Sailing Fleet – Yes
  • America’s Cup Yachts – No

 

How many races will we see?

  • PRADA America's Cup World Series race days have 4 races scheduled per day.
  • PRADA Cup - Challenger Selection Series race days have two races scheduled per day, with the exception of the 2nd and 22nd February which only have one race scheduled.
  • 36th America's Cup presented by PRADA race days have two races scheduled per day

Can I bring a bag?

As there is limited storage space on board, we ask that you only bring one small bag per person containing essential items only. Bags may be subject to checks prior to boarding. Explore will not be liable for any possessions that are misplaced while on board.

 

Will I get seasick?

If you are prone to seasickness, we suggest that you follow guidance from your pharmacist/GP.
