What to do with 24 hours in Auckland?

You’ve made it to Auckland, New Zealand’s big little city. There’s plenty to do here, but if your visit is fleeting and you’ve got 24 hours to spend in the City of Sails, here’s an example of how you tick off a bunch of “must dos” unique to this corner of the world.

8.30am: Breakfast! Coffee! If your accommodation doesn’t provide a delicious breakfast included in your stay, hit the pavement and check out one of Auckland’s famous breakfast/brunch spots. If you don’t know where to start some central breakfast institutions we can recommend are Major Sprout, Scratch Bakers, Amano and Odettes, but you can’t go wrong with just following your nose – there are so many great finds for your taste buds (and Instagram account) to discover.

Auckland Harbour Sailing Cruise

10am: Head down to the Auckland viaduct – one of Auckland’s most vibrant precincts, and get ready to set sail on the Waitemata Harbour on an Auckland Harbour Sailing Cruise. What better way to set yourself up for a day of adventure than to head out on the water to look out at the unique Auckland landscape. Feel the wind in your hair as you sail under the harbour bridge and back past some of Auckland's famous landmarks on this informative 1.5 hour cruise. If you’ve only got the afternoon in Auckland, you can also book a later sailing, there is also the option to sail at sunset with dinner included.

What to do in Auckland if you have 24 hours, visit Auckland Museum

Midday: Make your way over to the Auckland Domain to visit the Auckland Museum and war memorial. It’s a 50min walk approximately from the Auckland Viaduct through the Auckland CBD. Stop off at a metro supermarket to buy some bits and pieces for a picnic and set yourself up on the steps for lunch and to enjoy the view. Once you’ve finished eating, head inside and explore one of New Zealand's most important museums, spend a couple of hours looking around to learn about New Zealand’s fascinating history.

What to do in Auckland if you have 24 hours, visit the sky tower

5pm: Time to head up to the Sky Tower for dinner. Discover Auckland’s stunning vista from dizzying heights and dine at the Orbit Restaurant at sunset. There’s no better way to finish off a day of discovery than sitting back and experiencing 360-degree panorama of the city you’ve just wandered around. What’s even better is that your experience doesn’t just stop at the restaurant. Diners can also enjoy complimentary Sky Tower admission 45 minutes prior to and/or upon completion of dining. What a way to top off a whirlwind day exploring Auckland City!
